3.30pm – 4.15pm Finding the bad bugs in the healthcare environment: a new integrated approach to cleaning monitoring – There is a problem in hospital cleaning. There is currently no scientific monitoring method that provides timely and reliable assurance that harmful bacteria have been removed from the healthcare environment by the cleaning processes. The presence of multi-resistant organisms (MRO) located in biofilms in high touch zones confounds the cleaning goals within hospitals. The acceptable level for hand hygiene compliance adds layered complexity into managing healthcare surfaces. The new integrated approach to cleaning and environmental monitoring shows promise for improved management of MRO on environmental surfaces. This paper will review the findings and implications (particularly HH moments 1 and 5) for hygiene management within healthcare settings.

9.00am – 9.45am Radiofrequency Radiation & Health – Window Cleaner Risk – Radiofrequency Radiation (RF) has the ability to severely burn human tissue and may be thought of a “significant invisible and silent hazard”. Safety and cleaning professionals are for the most part very well versed in height safety and window cleaning but may have little or no knowledge of the very modern and prevalent hazard of radiofrequency radiation. As such this presentation will place a very strong emphasis on this very modern contemporary hazard and its health risks. A recent study of mine published by Inclean Magazine revealed that when a population of window cleaning companies were surveyed only 50% had an awareness of this very dangerous hazard. As mobile phone networks are forever expanding for improved quality of reception and to meet consumer demands then the risks to window cleaners are forever increasing as they encounter antenna’s mounted high up on buildings.

11.15am – 12.00pm Cleaning – The Dirty Facts – More soldiers died from infections than the wounds they sustained in the battlefield, and in some respect our patients are becoming the soldiers of yester year when they enter our health care facilities due to the ever-present emerging threat of the “super bug”. Is there a direct link between how clean a facility is, and the chance of a patient acquiring a Hospital Acquired Infection (HAI)? Well, the literature is certainly suggesting so.  This session will explore the link between cleaning, hospital infections and infection prevention.

12.15pm – 1.00pm How to make the tender process more effective plus creating a successful platform for the contract management phase – This session will focus on what both parties could learn and do,  to make the tender process more effective as well as creating a successful platform for the contract management phase. As a seasoned Facility Manager in New Zealand and in the Netherlands I have gained valuable insights on how to create a win-win situation for supplier and client. I can give insights on the value proposition for facility managers. What is it what they require from the “cleaners” to make a contract work and add value to an organisation and the Facility Management Team?

1.15pm – 2pm Meth Awareness – In just a few years, the drug P has made big inroads into NZ society. In April this year, NZ Police shut down two sophisticated drug rings and seized methamphetamine worth up to $123 million during a series of busts across Auckland. In late March, detectives and customs investigators working on Operation Wand carried out search warrants across the Auckland region, seizing 83kg of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of up to $83 million. The problem is growing and with it, the need for people trained in decontamination and removal.
